Orissa overcome Tripura scare

Orissa overcame a middle-order slump to beat Tripura by two wickets in opening league match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy East Zone One-day Cricket Tournament at Cuttack today. Chasing a target of 200, Orissa lost five wickets for 38 runs to struggle at 158 for seven before an unbeaten 34 by Rakesh Mohanty helped them romp home in 45.4 overs. Bengal rode on S Goswamy’s unbeaten century to crush Jharkhand by seven wickets in another match of the day. BRIEF SCORES: TRIPURA: 199 all out in 49.3 overs (Sukanta Reang 45, Swapan Das 35: Debasis Mohanty 4/14, Bibhudutta Pand 2/47, Alok Sahoo 2/56) lost to ORISSA: 201 for 8 in 45.4 overs (Natraj Behera 61, Rakesh Mohanty 34 n.o: Wilkin Mota 4/54, T Saha 2/38). JHARKHAND: 196 all out in 49.1 overs (Rajiv Kumar 61 n.o, Siddhartha Sinha 39: Ranadeb Bose 4/39, S S Mandal 3/32) lost to BENGAL: 197 for 3 in 35.4 overs (S Goswamy 109 n.o, W Saha 51 n.o: Y Krishanatry 2/26).
